AN INITIATIVE BY DANI SPORTS FOUNDATION TO ENSURE AWARENESS OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION IN STUDENTS
INTRODUCTION

The Pune Program was launched in 2022 across 35 schools in the Khed and Mawal blocks of Pune with the aim of ensuring that every child receives 60 hours of physical education (PE) in an academic year.

The program implements Project Chhalaang’s PE curriculum through engaging, activity-based sessions. Alongside regular classes, special events such as Fit School, Khel-Mela, and Khel Utsav help build momentum, generate excitement, and give children greater exposure.

A key focus of the program is on supporting and motivating PE teachers to ensure consistent and meaningful implementation that goes beyond documentation.

OBJECTIVES

The program is designed to:

  • Work closely with PE teachers to set up proper systems for conducting scheduled PE sessions as per the timetable.

  • Provide ready-to-use activities created by Project Chhalaang, rooted in its curriculum and activity design principles, so teachers always have sufficient material to run effective sessions.

  • Motivate and encourage PE teachers to conduct sessions independently.

  • Build rapport with school principals for smooth and continuous implementation.

  • Orient school stakeholders and organise interschool and intramural events to sustain enthusiasm.

  • Understand the challenges of implementing the model and identify solutions.

  • Assess the effectiveness of the program in improving student outcomes.

OPERATIONAL MODEL

The Pune Program follows a structured operational model to ensure sustainability and long-term impact. The steps include:

  1. Entering the Schools: Building trust and onboarding schools into the program.

  2. Training of Teachers: Preparing PE teachers on the curriculum and their specific roles.

  3. Rolling Out the Program: Integrating PE sessions into the school timetable.

  4. On-going Demonstration of Sessions: Conducting regular model PE classes in schools to provide guidance and support.

  5. Organizing Events: Hosting Fit School, Khel-Mela, Khel Utsav, and other activities to create excitement and strengthen program impact.

To ensure effective implementation, schools were selected based on clear criteria:

  • Availability of at least one 50 × 20 ft playground space.

  • Presence of dedicated PET teachers capable of leading the sessions.
